Rise of the Ronin is a combat focused open-world action RPG that takes place in Japan at a time of great change. It is the very end of a 300-year long Edo Period, commonly known as “Bakumatsu.” Set in the late 19th century, Japan is facing the darkest of times as it struggles with its oppressive rulers and deadly diseases while western influence permeates as civil war continues to rage between the Tokugawa Shogunate and the Anti-Shogunate factions.
Here in this time of mayhem, you embody a Ronin character, a warrior bound to no master and free to make choices of their own.
Development[]
On September 14, 2022, Rise of the Ronin was revealed at Sony's State of Play. Team NINJA director and president Fumihiko Yasuda revealed the development of the game begun seven years ago, and has progressed slowly and freely. According to Yasuda, Rise of the Ronin is the most ambitious project Team Ninja has developed.
On December 7, 2023, at The Game Awards 2023, a new pre-order trailer was released, with a release date of March 22, 2024 and pre-orders starting from December 14, 2023.
Demo[]
A free demo was released on July 24, 2024, featuring the game's prologue through the beginning of Chapter 1 in Yokohama. The demo has no time limit and the playable portion contains the same content as the full game. Players can carry over their progress from the demo when they purchase the game.
DLC[]
Those who pre-order the game will receive Iga Ninja's Armour Set and Iga Ninja's Katana, and four Combat Styles: Hayabusa-ryu for Katana and Naginata, Nioh-ryu for Katana and Aisu Kage-ryu for Katana. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes exclusive Bando Warrior Armor Set, Japanese Formal Wear Set, Iga Ninja's Staff, Toyokuni Paired Swords, Digital Soundtrack and Digital Art Book.
